/ my story

Hello, I am Sanja, the artist behind Winerelle!

Winerelle art project was born in 2015 when I spilled some red wine on the white tablecloth at a wine tasting. After that little “incident”, I have been creating the art from wine stains and began touring around the world to perform live at wine tastings and teach wine painting techniques.

Over the years, I have developed a recognizable and delicate painting style with an exquisite color palette from the selected grape varieties: Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan, Petit Verdot, Saperavi, and Shiraz.

I am curious to try out the colors hiding inside different wine bottles, while always on the lookout for the finest varietals with rich pigment. The painting starts as soon as the bottle is opened.
The naturally intense wine color comes from compounds like tannins and pigments called anthocyanins. No wonder that back in medieval times wine was usually mixed with ink.
The artworks are alive, and colors will continue to develop over time due to the “aging" process.
Wine is the safest art material out there. No toxic paints in the drains.
Wine paintings don't like exposure to the sun, direct light sources and high humidity - just like any other artwork. They will be preserved best when kept under a glass frame, at normal room temperature and away from harmful elements.
I never mix different wines in the same container; it would result in a dull color. Instead, each wine varietal is used as a separate stroke to achieve a subtle color difference between purple, pink, magenta, and deep red.
Artworks are made on the professional grade cold pressed cotton paper and brushes cleaned with Sauvignon Blanc. Mistakes are irreversible. Once the stain gets absorbed, it stays forever.
